nmcn - Level 3 Apprenticeship Programme
Kelsey Berry is a Planning Team Leader at NM Group. Her role consists of being commercially aware of weekly targets, liaising with multiple councils, and working closely with teams out on site to ensure productivity is maximised. With a vision to get more involved with Project Management, Kelsey enrolled onto the Level 3 Team Leader/Supervisor apprenticeship programme.
Discussing the programme, she said “I have for a long time wanted to get more involved with Project Management and how to productively yet motivate by delegating. I am on day 6 of my course now and have recently been told that we have an opportunity to come up with our own project for the company and to execute it which I am thoroughly looking forward to”.
Kelsey added, “I have previously been to college, and initially I wanted to continue with my course for a Higher National Diploma, however I found this was very repetitive of what I had already spent two years learning”.
“The ILM apprenticeship programme is delivered in a way that keeps me 100% focused and it is made interesting by our programme leader”.
“I have a great team that I am learning with on the programme, and not only am I understanding different parts of leadership and management, but also the different techniques and management types the others use and how I can implement them”.
Speaking of how the programme has improved her capabilities and performance, Kelsey said, “For me, delegation was my main issue. Sometimes this was down to staff levels, and other times it was down to myself not having enough trust.”
“Lisa, my programme leader, has not only taught me how to delegate, but helped me to understand why it was a problem for me. I have now started to delegate more, which has enabled me to performance manage others, as well as letting them grow and enhance within their job role”.
Kelsey explained that the programme has also provided her will the skills and knowledge to better understand her team, how they are best managed, and how they want to progress within their roles.
She added “The programme has enabled me to build a strong relationship with my team. I am now able to utilise my team by training them up in different areas, so they can assist each other as well as boost their profile and what they can achieve”.
Concluding the conversation, Kelsey said “Understanding project management, the use of tools such as Gantt chart, and how to execute with hopeful succession, I am really looking forward to the opportunities that I may be able to apply for!”
